Xavier locks up Mack through 2017-18 by The Sports Network

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) – Xavier University has signed head men’s basketball coach Chris Mack to a new contract, which runs through the 2017-18 season.

Mack was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year this past season after leading the Musketeers to a 24-8 overall record, their fifth straight A-10 regular-season title and their sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

The 41-year-old Mack is 50-17 overall and 29-3 in conference play in his two years at the helm. He became the head coach in 2009 after being an assistant for Xavier from 2004-09.

“This is the most comprehensive agreement we have ever offered to a head coach at Xavier University and we are pleased to do so,” associate vice president and athletic director Mike Bobinski said. “Chris (Mack) is much more than just one of the best young coaches in college basketball. We believe he is one of the best coaches in college basketball and that our program will excel both on and off the court under his leadership in the years ahead.”

Mack’s two-year A-10 record equals the best two-year conference run in Xavier history.

“I have said many times that the commitment from our administration has been paramount to our success in college basketball,” Mack said. “Xavier is a special place and the support from (University President Fr.) Mike Graham, (Vice President) John Kucia, (Athletic Director) Mike Bobinski and the entire Xavier Community is overwhelming. As both an alum and the head coach, I am excited about the future of the Xavier basketball program.”

XU’s director of basketball operations from 1999-2001, Mack spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Wake Forest from 2001-04. He returned to Xavier in 2004 as an assistant coach under former head coach Sean Miller.
