Warriors score 138 in rout of Raptors

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) – Monta Ellis scored 27 points and led seven Golden State players in double figures in a 138-100 rout of the Toronto Raptors.

The Warriors set an NBA season-high with 84 points in the first half. Dorell Wright tallied 26 points, Stephen Curry 23 and David Lee 21, including the first made three-pointer of his career.

Everything seemed to be falling for the Warriors. They scored 45 in the opening quarter, ended the game shooting 61.4 percent and snapped a six-game slide.

“I wanted to send a message to our team that we are building,” Warriors head coach Keith Smart said. “This is a process. The way we have always done it at this time of year, to sit back and not play, you’ve got your better players on your team who want to play and will play, and that’s a good thing.”

Leandro Barbosa and DeMar DeRozan each scored 19 for the Raptors, losers of three in a row. Ed Davis had 18 points and 11 rebounds, while James Johnson tallied 14 points in defeat.

Wright and Ellis combined for 28 first-quarter points, a period in which the Warriors shot 81 percent (17-of-21). A finger roll by Ellis widened the gap to 33-23 with 3:35 left and his jumper in the final moments left it as a nine- point cushion going to the second.

Golden State continued to pull away in the next period, as the lead reached 60-41 on two free throws from Al Thornton four minutes in.

Curry’s three-ball moved the difference to 84-55 in the final minute before DeRozan capped the half with a three of his own.

At the end of the first half, the Warriors were shooting 68.9 percent from the field and 7-of-9 on three-pointers.

The 26-point deficit was way too much to overcome for the Raptors. It was 116-74 going to the fourth and Golden State was ahead by as many as 47 in the last stanza.
