New York, NY (Sports Network) – Washington Wizards guard John Wall has been suspended for one game without pay for his altercation with Miami Heat center Zydrunas Ilgauskas on March 30.
The NBA announced the suspension on Thursday and also fined Ilgauskas $25,000 for his role in the altercation.
Ilgauskas controlled the ball at the top of the arc with 8:48 remaining in the second quarter of Miami’s 123-107 victory and swung his elbows around while being guarded by Wall. The rookie guard wasn’t happy with Ilgauskas and tried to throw a punch at Ilgauskas’ midsection. That led to some pushing and shoving.
Ilgauskas and Wall both received flagrant foul type two’s and were tossed from the contest. Heat forward Juwan Howard and Washington center JaVale McGee were called for a double technical foul. Howard was also ejected from the game.
Howard was fined $35,000 for his role in the altercation.
