5. Phillip Humber (Chicago White Sox) – For a few games I was one of those who believed Humber was a pretender, but he has made a believer out of me. The under is a stunning 7-0 in his last seven starts overall. Opponents are hitting just .179 off Humber and he has a stellar WHIP of 0.94 this year.
4. Anibal Sanchez (Florida Marlins) – Sanchez burst onto the scene with a no-hitter in 2007, and he has nearly thrown a couple more this year. The books continue to line him as though he is only a decent pitcher, but he has proven to be consistently very good. Sanchez has the ability to strikeout lots of batters, and he has good control of all his pitches.
3. Jaime Garcia (St. Louis Cardinals) – Garcia is one of the best pitchers in the National League right now. If he keeps up his current pace, the books will catch on, but for now he is still a value. Garcia is only in his second year in the majors and his career numbers are amazing. He is 19-9 with a 2.72 ERA in his young career. I expect big things from Garcia in the years to come.
2. Matt Cain (San Francisco Giants) – It’s hard to believe a guy who has been as good as Cain for this long could continue to be underrated, but he is. Why is he underrated? Tim Lincecum tends to get all the publicity in San Francisco, but the reality is Matt Cain is even more consistently great. The Giants are already 6-2 in his 8 starts in 2011. Cain has had a WHIP of 1.18 or better in each of the last three years.
1. Trevor Cahill (Oakland Athletics) – Cahill is another guy that manages to fly under the radar because of Brett Anderson and Gio Gonzalez. The truth of the matter is Cahill has been the Athletics best pitcher the last couple years. The Athletics are only a mediocre team, but they are 6-2 in his 8 starts this year. Cahill is absolutely dominant at home and consistently solid on the road. Look for chances to play the Athletics with Cahill on the mound.
I’m now 7-1 in my last 8 plays overall. In 2010, MLB bettors who wagered $1,000 on every pick of mine finished the year with a profit of $35,910! Try out a Guaranteed package today!
