Top 10 NBA Power Rankings by Tony Karpinski

1-San Antonio Spurs (40-7); The Spurs have been together. They have a balanced team from top to bottom, with 5 players scoring between 11-19 or more every night.

2- Boston Celtics (36-11); Boston needs to make sure they stay healthy. They have a deep team with much help from their bench; with Nate Robinson and Glen Davis giving immediate production off the bench, without doubt the best team in the East.

3- Miami Heat (33-14); The LeBron led Miami Heat are a treacherous team to play, they are 5th NBA in defense, only giving up 94/gm. Having D-Wade and still overlooked Chris Bosh can do a great deal of destruction quickly on the court, making them very tough to play.

4- Los Angeles Lakers (33-15); Sometimes seem to lack passion when playing. This may be the last season for a serious shot at winning the title. They are still great, and are a legit team, but they seem to be losing heart.

5- Orlando Magic (31-17); The Magic have had some injury problems with Jameer Nelson and Gilbert Arenas. They need to get themselves patched up quickly, and Hedo Turkoglu better get his game back soon or they can tumble out of top contention in the vastly improved East.

6- Chicago Bulls (33-14); The Bulls seems to be ready for the next step, Chicago Bulls’ PF/C Joakim Noah continued his comeback and his conditioning workouts. The Bulls are a very real team to deal with in the NBA.

7- Denver Nuggets (28-19); The Nuggets have been playing great winning 4 of the last 5 games, even with all the diversion surrounding Carmelo Anthony’s state of affairs.

8- New Orleans Hornets (31-18); Silently playing the best defense in the NBA. David West has become the number one scoring option for New Orleans.

9- Dallas Mavericks (31-15); the Mavs can still beat the good teams, as they showed by beating Atlanta by 11. Don’t sleep on the Mavs.

10- Atlanta Hawks (30-18); Improving every year over the last 4 season, look to be on their way to yet another improvement this year, Joe Johnson leading the Hawks with 20.1 ppg, looking good this season.

Big Baller of the Week (BBW)

Kevin Love (PF, Minnesota Timberwolves) 25 points per game, 16 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game, 55% FG shooting for the week. His T-Wolves toiled, only going 1-3, but one man can only do so much, the 6-10 power forward had a great week. The only win coming from the lowly 13-35 Raptors, losing to Utah, 108-100 and Oklahoma City, 118-117, 2 top tier team’s teams. Including his best game of the week vs the Thunder, dropping 31 pts on them while also grabbing 21 boards and shooting 13-23, including 3-3 from long range.

Top performers of the week

Scoring; Kevin Durant (SF, Oklahoma City Thunder); 47 points in a 118-117 win vs Minnesota.

Rebounding; Kevin Love (PF, Minnesota Timberwolves); 21 rebounds in 118-117 loss vs Oklahoma City during the week.

Assists; Chris Paul (PG, New Orleans Hornets); 17 assists in a 112-103 win vs Golden State.

Steals; Jrue Holiday, Paul Milsap; 6 steals in each of their respective games.

X-factor- tri bomber of the week

Chauncey Billups; (PG, Denver Nuggets) Billups knocked down a smoking 57% of his treys he put up in the week. Knocking ‘em down from deep with strict shelling outside the arc, including a 6-9 three point barrage vs his old team, the Pistons, as he dropped 26 in the game.
