The State of the NFL

Hey sports fans, it is now going into Week 4 of the NFL and boy have we seen some surprises. There are teams that we thought would be undefeated at the moment that aren’t. There are also teams that we felt would be winless that are a perfect 3-0. There really isn’t too many surprises in the AFC East as New York, Miami, and New England are al at 2-1, while Buffalo is 0-3. New England has the experience and savvy while New York has the defense. Don’t count Miami out either. We held our breath after Week 1 when Indianapolis lost to Houston. Now after Week 3, there is a 3-way tie between the Texans, Colts, and Titans at 3-1. Jacksonville is binging up the rear at 1-2. No one, and I mean no one thought that a Pittsburgh squad without Rothlesberger could win a game. Well, they won 3. They lost both their 2nd and 3rd QBs and are still winning. They are just 2 weeks away from getting Big Ben back. Cincy and Baltimore are deadlocked at 2-1 while an improved Cleveland team is at 0-3. This is a tough division. All 4 teams can beat you. The AFC North is getting very interesting. The AFC South might have the biggest shock in the NFL. Kansas City, who couldn’t buy a victory last season is now undefeated at 3-0. San Diego was one of the NFLs elite squads and was touted as winning 11 games, is at 1-2. So is Denver and Oakland. We thought Denver was going to make a better showing but a tough schedule has hurt them. As far as Oakland is concerned, they have talent but just don’t know how to use it. The NFC has their share of surprises as well. The leagues toughest division is the NFC East. The Dallas Cowboys were a pre-season pick by many to take the Super Bowl. A slow start and some offensive line issues made them 1-2. New York is supposed to be the 2nd best team in the East but they are 1-2. No surprises with Washington sitting at 1-2 either. The shock is Philadelphia. At 2-1, they are leading the division and with 83 points scored, they have the best scoring offense in the NFC. Michael Vick took over at QB and has the Eagles soaring. In the NFC South there is no surprise that Atlanta and New Orleans are fighting for the top spot each at 2-1. The Falcons took down the Saints in Week 3. Tampa Bay, who many thought would be worse then last season, is also at 2-1. Poor Carolina, they dwell in the cellar at 0-3. The NFC North is in a state of confusion. Detroit is a better team then last year, but still can’t get a win at 0-3. Minnesota was foreseen as a team to be reckoned with but old age seems to have crept up on Bret Favre. The Vikes are 1-2. Green Bay is right where everyone thought they would be at 2-1. This is a very complete squad. But still has some injury woes. The Bears are playing with a new found intensity. They eked by Detroit in Week 1 just to manhandle both Dallas and Green bay in Weeks 2 and 3. They are 3-0. The NFC West is upside down. The San Fransisco 49ers were said to take it all with ease. Someone should have told them that. They are getting shellacked all over the field and are winless at 0-3. The Rams are tougher then a season ago but still don’t have the horses to get over the hump. They are at 1-2. Arizona lost leader Kurt Warner and was written–off. They sit in 2nd place at 2-1. Seattle, yes Seattle with Dennis Erickson as the new HC is in 1st place at 2-1. Erickson has the team believing that they can win. The one thing that is certain in the NFL is that nothing is certain. Rest assure that the schedules are about to get tougher on many teams. Some will handle it and some won’t. All the teams that should be there will and some of the teams that are flying high right now will crash land. There has been a lot of surprises thus far.
