South Carolina QB Garcia suspended indefinitely by The Sports Network
Columbia, SC (Sports Network) – South Carolina senior starting quarterback Stephen Garcia has been suspended indefinitely.
“Being a student-athlete at the University of South Carolina is a privilege, not a right,” said South Carolina athletics director Eric Hyman in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon. “We have expectations for our student-athletes and we make them aware that there are consequences for their actions.
“Stephen has exhibited behavior that is unacceptable for one of our student- athletes. Therefore, he has forfeited the privilege to participate in any football related activity until further notice.”
Garcia had also missed the first day of spring practice while serving a suspension back on March 15. He, along with sophomore redshirt quarterback Andrew Clifford were both penalized for violating team rules.
The 23-year-old Florida native finished the 2010 campaign with 3,059 passing yards and 20 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. The Gamecocks went 9-5 and claimed the SEC East title, but lost to Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Garcia has started 28 straight games for South Carolina and ranks third all- time in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and attempts for the Gamecocks.
