Sedin, St. Louis, Perry named Hart Trophy finalists by The Sports Network

New York, NY (Sports Network) – Vancouver’s Daniel Sedin, Tampa Bay’s Martin St. Louis and Anaheim’s Corey Perry have been named finalists for the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player.

Sedin could join his twin brother Henrik as Hart winners, as Henrik claimed the honor last year. Daniel was the Art Ross Trophy winner this year as the league’s scoring leader, having registered 41 goals and 63 assists for a career-high 104 points.

In addition to his points title, Daniel also had an NHL-best 18 goals and 42 points on the power play. He helped the Canucks to the best record in the NHL and was second among league forwards with a plus-30 rating.

St. Louis was the Hart winner in 2004 when he helped the Lightning win their lone Stanley Cup crown. This season, he finished second in the league with 99 points after posting 31 goals and 68 assists. The assist total tied a franchise record and helped the Lightning to their first playoff berth since 2007.

Perry won the Maurice Richard Trophy as the league’s top goal scorer with 50. He scored 19 goals in his last 16 games, helping the Ducks from 11th place into a playoff berth as the fourth seed in the Western Conference. A Hart finalist for the first time, Perry led all players with 21 third-period goals and 25 of his tallies either tied the score or put the Ducks ahead.

Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association submitted ballots for the Hart Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists.

The winner will be announced during the 2011 NHL Awards program on June 22 in Las Vegas.
