Retired NFL players file complaint by The Sports Network

A group of retired NFL players reportedly filed a new complaint against current players and owners on Monday.

The New York Times reported the retired players, who are involved in the anti- trust lawsuit against the league, filed the class-action complaint in Federal District Court in Minneapolis.

It was filed against NFL teams, the NFL, players named in the Brady lawsuit against the league, and NFL Players’ Association head DeMaurice Smith, according to the report.

The Times reported the complaint accuses current players and the league, in their negotiations for a new labor agreement, of conspiring to limit benefits for former NFL players so that current players can have maximized salaries and benefits.

The complaint was filed to obtain an injunction to stop the league and current players from discussing retiree-related matters, the Times report said. The report said the court will have to decide if the retired players have standing to bring an anti-trust complaint.

The league and players engaged in a series of talks last week before taking the holiday weekend off. Negotiations are expected to resume this week to establish a new labor deal and end the lockout, which began March 12 after talks toward a new collective bargaining agreement broke down and the players’ association decertified.
