Report: Pennington to sit out 2011 season by The Sports Network

Free agent quarterback Chad Pennington will reportedly sit out the 2011 season to recover from injuries.

According to the Charleston Daily Mail, Pennington said he will work for Fox Sports during the upcoming 2011 NFL season, provided the labor issue is settled.

The paper quoted Pennington, who spoke at a banquet in West Virginia this week, as saying he will try to “get healthy” and would then “evaluate things and see where I am physically.”

Pennington suffered a shoulder injury in his only game last year playing for the Miami Dolphins and tore an ACL in his knee while playing pickup basketball recently.

A two-time NFL Comeback Player of the Year, Pennington has been a productive player in his 11-year, injury-filled career that began in 2000 with the New York Jets. He joined the Dolphins in 2008 after the Jets acquired Brett Favre and helped Miami to a division title, then suffered a shoulder injury in 2009 that ended his season after three games.

Pennington, who will turn 35 later this month, began last season as the backup to Chad Henne. He got a chance to start in a November 14 game against Tennessee, but injured his shoulder on his first offensive series and missed the remainder of the season.
