Peavy goes on DL for second time this season by The Sports Network

The White Sox placed starting pitcher Jake Peavy on the disabled list on Wednesday due to a strained right groin.

The move is retroactive to June 6.

Peavy pulled up with the injury on Sunday after yielding six runs in the fourth inning to the Tigers. The former Cy Young Award winner was perfect through three innings before imploding in the fourth, throwing 37 of his 75 pitches in the frame before exiting.

It was his fifth start of the season since coming off the disabled list with a torn right latissimus. Entering the game, Peavy was 2-0 with a 3.24 earned-run average and 16 strikeouts over 25 innings.

Chicago recalled pitcher Lucas Harrell from Triple-A Charlotte to take Peavy’s place.

Harrell appeared in one game for the White Sox earlier this season and allowed four runs on nine hits in four innings of relief.
