NFL Preseason Super Angles by Ross Benjamin
In spite of what the naysayers will tell you there is money to be in the NFL preseason. Below I have submitted some of my many successful preseason angles that I use as a foundational tool during this period of time. Please be advised there are many factors to be considered when approaching handicapping a NFL preseason game above and beyond just systems or angles. However the angles included in the paragraphs below are a very nice starting point.
SU=straight up ATS=against the spread BB=back to back
Any NFL Preseason underdog of 6.5 or more in games 2 through 4 that is off a SU & ATS loss in which they failed to cover by 7.0 or more in which they allowed 29 or more points is 21-1 ATS since 1985. The underdog is also 14-8 SU in those situations.
Any NFL preseason underdog that’s playing their 2nd game versus an opponent playing in their 1st game is 21-9-2 ATS since 1990. If they are an away underdog coming off a SU&ATS loss they are 11-1-1 ATS since 1990. The away underdog is 10-3 SU in those 13 games.
Any NFL preseason home favorite of 6.5 or more that’s coming off of BB SU wins, and in their last game they scored 35-points or more is 1-7 ATS since 1980. The favorite is just 2-6 SU in those 8 games.
Any NFL preseason home favorite -4.0 or less that’s coming off of BB SU & ATS wins the last of which they scored 14-points or more, They won their previous game by 5 points or more, versus a foe off BB SU wins is 1-13 ATS since 1994. The favorite is also just 2-12 SU.
Any NFL preseason favorite of 7.5 or more that’s coming off of a SU win is 1-14 ATS since 1992. The favorite is just 8-7 SU in those 15 games.
Any NFL preseason home favorite of 3.5 or more that is 0-3 SU in their last 3 games, and they lost the previous game by 8 points or less is 11-0 SU&ATS since 1987. (12.1 PPG)
Any NFL preseason home favorite of 3.5 or more that’s coming off of an away underdog ATS loss that they failed to cover by 10.0 or more, versus an opponent that comes off a SU&ATS win by 10-points or less in which they scored more than 10 points is 9-0 SU & ATS since 1990.(16.7 PPG)
