Tonight expect some booze at Radio City Musical Hall and plenty of boos for commissioner Roger Goodell at the NFL Draft. Starting time in New York City is 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and The NFL Network.
The draft has been more low-key this year due to the projected lockout, which a judge overturned earlier this week. However, the NFL continues to fight that ruling so don’t expect much in the way of trades tonight.
There is no one dominant choice, but this edition of college football’s offering is rated by experts as one of the deepest in recent years.
Auburn’s Cam Newton is the No. 1 player on several NFL draft board mockups, although we found one internet site (listed below) that said otherwise in a mock draft.
The Carolina Panthers have reportedly narrowed their choices for the top overall pick to Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, cornerback Patrick Peterson and wide receiver AJ Green.
How important is the draft to the Las Vegas sports books? Generally, not much. But, it does have interest and could sway a few bettors in terms of whether or not to lay some future wagers down on their favorite teams.
The Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook lists the New England Patriots as the 5-1 favorite to win the 2012 Super Bowl. Longest shot on the board is Carolina at 300-1. That number could change slightly if Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner, is selected overall No. 1.
