East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) – New Jersey Nets guard Deron Williams underwent wrist surgery Monday.
Williams had three bony fragments removed from his right wrist and had scar tissue in the area cleaned out.
“The bony fragments and scar tissue taken from Deron’s wrist today were interfering with this ability to flex his wrist,” said surgeon Dr. Riley Williams III, who was part of the team that performed the procedure. “We expect a full recovery and a return to basketball-related activities in approximately 6-8 weeks.”
Williams’ wrist will remain in a soft splint for two weeks and he will then begin a rehab program. The Nets expect him to be ready for training camp in the fall.
The Nets acquired Williams from the Utah Jazz on February 23 and the two-time All-Star played just 12 games for his new team. He averaged 15.0 points and 12.8 assists during his brief tenure with the club.
