NBA Game Summary – Cleveland at New Jersey

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) – Brook Lopez hit a turnaround jumper with 1.4 seconds remaining, as the New Jersey Nets handed Cleveland its 17th straight loss, taking a 103-101 decision at the Prudential Center.

Lopez led all scorers with 28 points to go with seven rebounds and Devin Harris ended with 14 points and 10 assists for New Jersey, which recovered from a loss to Dallas on Saturday and has won three of its last four. Kris Humphries chipped in with 11 points and 11 boards off the bench for the victors.

“We definitely had to fight. We fought all the way back,” Harris said. “Disappointed with kind of the way we started, so we definitely had a little more in us. We just wanted to execute to the point where we gave ourselves a chance.”

Antawn Jamison had a team-high 26 points and eight rebounds for the Cavaliers, who last won on December 18 against the New York Knicks.

The Cavaliers have dropped 17 in a row for the first time since a franchise- worst 19-game losing streak to close out the 1981-82 campaign.

“Losing period is tough,” Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott said. “I don’t know if it’s that much tougher if it’s one or two points for if it’s 15 or 20 points. It’s tough no matter how you look at it.”

Down by seven with 9:27 remaining in the fourth, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Farmar hit back-to-back three-pointers to spark a Nets 14-2 run. Harris’ finger roll with 5:38 left put New Jersey ahead 86-85 and it would go up by five after Farmar’s layup with 4:18 on the clock.

Then with the Nets in front 97-93 and just over two minutes on the clock, Daniel Gibson hit from beyond the arc and Ramon Sessions’ driving dunk had the Cavaliers ahead 98-97 with 1:08 to play.

However, a dunk by Humphries and Morrow’s short bank shot put the Nets up by three with only 13.2 seconds remaining.

Following a Cleveland timeout, Joey Graham got the ball and hit a corner three to even things at 101-all with 7.1 ticks to go, but Lopez drained a six-foot turnaround to give the Nets the lead for good.

Out of 20 second timeout by Cleveland, Gibson took the inbound pass in the near corner, but his three was off the mark as time expired.

Gibson scored nine points in the opening quarter to help the Cavaliers grab a 29-26 lead after 12 minutes and they would be ahead 54-48 at the break.

The Cavs maintained the lead throughout the third and Jamison’s pair at the stripe in the closing seconds had the visitors up 77-73 heading into the fourth.

Game Notes

Despite the loss, Cleveland is still 13-6 in the last 19 meetings versus the Nets…New Jersey, which shot 44.6 percent from the field and 7-of-13 from three-point territory, improved to 10-11 at home this season…The Cavaliers shot 45.2 percent from the floor…Farmar ended with 11 points.
