Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) – Martin Prado and Dan Uggla both homered off former Brave Takashi Saito in the eighth inning, as Atlanta edged the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-1, in the opener of a four-game series at Miller Park. Brandon Beachy struck out seven over six innings for Atlanta, which took two of three from Washington to begin the season. One of the four hits given up by Beachy was a Rickie Weeks home run in the third. The Brewers, who were swept in Cincinnati, have dropped four consecutive games to start the season for the first time since 2003. Chris Narveson tossed six scoreless frames for Milwaukee, scattering three hits and recording five strikeouts, but earned a no-decision.

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – Alfonso Soriano hit a solo homer and knocked in two, as the Chicago Cubs earned a 4-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a three-game set at Wrigley Field. Geovany Soto had a pair of doubles, a run batted in and a run scored, while Carlos Pena added a sacrifice fly for the Cubs, who dropped two of three to Pittsburgh over the weekend. Randy Wells (1-0) picked up the win in six innings, allowing one run on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts. The right-hander finished 8-14 with a 4.26 ERA in 32 starts a season ago. Carlos Marmol, who was charged with a blown save and took the loss in Sunday’s 5-4 setback, recovered to lock this one down with a scoreless ninth. Willie Bloomquist accounted for the offense with a homer for Arizona, which split the first two games of the season against the Rockies. Sunday’s game at Colorado was postponed due to a mix of rain and snow. Joe Saunders (0-1) was tagged with the loss for yielding two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked three. The 29-year-old went 3-7 with a 4.25 earned run average in 13 starts for Arizona last year after being acquired from the Angels in July.

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) – Andrew McCutchen’s two-run home run capped a four-run sixth inning to help the Pittsburgh Pirates take a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a three-game set. Neil Walker hit a two-run double in the frame while Charlie Morton (1-0) worked six innings of one-run, three-hit ball to pick up the win for the Pirates, who took two of three from the Cubs over the weekend to open the season. Lance Berkman and Allen Craig each drove in a run for the Cardinals, who dropped two of three at home against San Diego in the season-opening series. Kyle Lohse (0-1) was touched for four runs on six hits in seven innings.
