Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) – Miguel Cairo and Paul Janish each knocked in a pair of runs, as the Cincinnati Reds snapped a four-game slide with a 7-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the finale of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park. Joey Votto hit a solo homer and Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a run- scoring double for the Reds, who had dropped six of seven coming into the contest. Mike Leake (3-0) worked seven quality innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. The 24- year-old made his scheduled start despite his arrest on Monday for an alleged shoplifting incident at a downtown Cincinnati Macy’s department store. Stephen Drew clubbed a solo homer and drove in two, while Kelly Johnson also homered for Arizona, which had a three-game winning streak halted. Daniel Hudson (0-4) was roughed up for seven runs on five hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings to absorb the loss. The right-hander struck out three and also drove in a run.

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) – Kyle Lohse was stellar in a two-hit shutout to help the St. Louis Cardinals take the three-game series against the Washington Nationals with a 5-0 win. Lohse (3-1) walked just two batters and struck out six for the Cardinals, who won the second game of a doubleheader against Washington on Wednesday to break a two-game losing streak. Alongside the impressive pitching performance, Matt Holliday and Albert Pujols each had two-run homers. Jayson Werth and Mike Morse had the only hits for Washington, which has lost two straight since a four-game winning streak. Tom Gorzelanny (0-2) went five innings in the loss, allowing two hits, two runs and four walks.

Final Score: Los Angeles 5, Atlanta 3 (12 innings)

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) – Matt Kemp’s two-run homer in the 12th inning lifted the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Braves in the conclusion of a four-game series. In the 12th with Cristhian Martinez (0-1) on the mound, Andre Ethier hit a one-out double and Kemp turned on an 0-2 slider and put it over the wall in left-center for the win. Casey Blake and Juan Uribe each hit solo home runs and Blake forced extra innings with an RBI single in the ninth for the Dodgers, who took three of four in the set. Matt Guerrier (1-0) pitched the final two innings to get the win. Freddie Freeman hit a solo home run and David Ross punched a two-run single for the Braves, who have lost six of their last nine. Jair Jurrjens went six innings and gave up one run on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) – Chris Capuano threw seven solid innings and David Wright went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, three RBI and two runs scored as the New York Mets took a 9-1 win over the Houston Astros. Capuano (2-1) gave up one run on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts while Ike Davis and Mike Nickeas each hit solo shots for the Mets, who avoided the sweep and had Jason Bay in the lineup for the first time this season. Bay was activated off the 15-day disabled list before the game after recovering from a spring training rib injury. J.A. Happ (1-3) was tagged for six runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings for the Astros, who had won three of four coming in. Matt Downs drove in the lone run.

Miami, FL (Sports Network) – Scott Cousins belted his first career home run, a grand slam in the second inning, as the Florida Marlins handled the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-5, to complete a three-game sweep. Cousins finished 2-for-4 and Brett Hayes hit a three-run homer for the Marlins, who recorded their first sweep of the Pirates since 2002. Mike Stanton added a solo homer. Chris Volstad (1-1) gave up five runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings to pick up his first win of the season. He also struck out five and walked three for Florida, which won the first two games of this set by 6-0 scores and have taken six of seven overall. The news is not all good for the Marlins, who will be without left fielder Logan Morrison for 2-4 weeks with a left foot injury. Pedro Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI for the Pirates, who came into this series riding a two-game winning streak. James McDonald (0-2) allowed eight runs on six hits over three innings to take the loss.

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) – Ben Francisco and Brian Schneider homered to back six shutout innings from Roy Oswalt and help the Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the Padres in the opener of a four-game series. Oswalt (3-0) had left his last outing, Friday against Florida, after six innings because of back spasms. But he was in form Thursday, allowing only one hit, walking two and striking out seven. Francisco finished with two RBI for Philadelphia, which was coming off a series loss against Milwaukee. Mat Latos (0-3) struggled in 4 1/3 innings as San Diego lost for the third time in four games. He allowed three runs and four hits, walked five and struck out seven. Of his 107 pitches, only 59 were strikes.
