Michigan G Morris declares for NBA Draft by The Sports Network

Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) – University of Michigan sophomore guard Darius Morris has declared for the 2011 NBA draft on Thursday, but has opted not to hire an agent at this time.

“All my life it has been a goal of mine to play in the NBA, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to take this step towards that dream,” said Morris. “I look forward to going through this process with the potential of playing at the next level.”

Morris was an All-Big Ten conference third team selection and aided the Wolverines to a 21-14 record, including a trip the NCAA Tournament. He scored a team-best 15.0 points per game this past season, improving from 4.4 ppg during his freshman year.

The California native became just the third Michigan player to record a 200- plus assists season (235) and had the school’s third triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against Iowa on January 30.

Morris, who has compiled 666 career points, 197 rebound and 319 assists, will be eligible to return to the university if he withdraws his name from the draft consideration before the May 8th deadline.
