New York, NY (Sports Network) – The Knicks have picked up the one-year option on veteran point guard Chauncey Billups.
Knicks president Donnie Walsh made the announcement in a statement Wednesday, calling Billups part of the nucleus of the team along with Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.
“Chauncey is an extremely talented and experienced point guard — we are very happy to have him back,” Walsh said.
Billups, of course, came over in the blockbuster trade with the Nuggets that landed Anthony in New York ahead of the trade deadline. Billups appeared in 72 games with Denver and New York, averaging 16.8 points and 5.4 assists.
He injured his left knee in Game 1 of New York’s playoff series against the Boston Celtics and failed to appear in the final three games as the Knicks were swept.
