It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year… College Bowls $ by Sean Higgs

It starts tomorrow at promptly 2pm in the New Mexico Bowl. BYU -11.5 over UTEP. Can Miners QB Trevor Vittatoe shake off his ankle woes and pull and upset. Both teams average over 350ypg.

After that game, ESPN brings us the Humanitarian Bowl between Northern Illinois and Fresno State. The Huskies were rolling before getting upset as near 20 point favorites in the MAC Championship. Will the coaching change hurt? Will Fresno HC Pat Hill have his Bulldogs up to the task?

Closing out your Day 1 of College Football brings us a real taste of December College Football. The New Orleans Bowl, featuring Troy and Ohio. Troy is listed as a 2 point favorite. Can Ohio exploit a Troy defense that gives up 420ypg. Can their defense stop Troy who goes for nearly 450 a game? Tune in at 9pm on ESPN for the answers!

Tuesday brings us the St. Petersburg Bowl. Louisville -3 over Southern Miss. What do you think when you see a 6-6 team giving points to a 8-4 team. Southern Miss brings a prolific offense to the table that is averaging over 200 yards both on the ground and through the air. The Cards are giving up less than 300ypg. 8pm on ESPN for this Big East/C-USA affair.

Vegas Baby! The Las Vegas Bowl. You have to think Boise was aiming a bit higher than a before Christmas Bowl. Broncos come in as heavy faves, -17 over Utah. Will Boise show up. Does Utah have something to prove? 8pm ESPN

We head to Poinsetta Bowl on Thursday between San Diego State and Navy. Basically a home game for the Aztecs. But Navy is a team that should not be taken lightly. 8pm ESPN

Christmas Eve. Family, friends, presents and good food. Plus you get the Hawaii Bowl featuring the Rainbows taking on Tulsa and a total of 73. Those in the Midwest and Northeast will love looking out their frosted windows, while those 200 people in attendence in Hawaii bask in some great weather. Is this the offensive explosion every expects? Will you be watching at 8pm on ESPN or will you be watching the Santa Tracker?

After you spend Christmas with the family and have a day to recoup, ESPN brings you some pizza. The Little Caesars Bowl between Toledo laying 2 to Florida Int’l. 8:30pm on ESPN

The 27th brings us some Indepence Bowl action. Air Force v Georgia Tech. Just a couple of grind it out running teams. If you are looking for play action or 85 yard bombs, well this isn’t your game. But if you aren’t busy at 5:30, turn on the Deuce and get ready for Monday Night Football with some amatuers

A pair of game going on Tuesday the 28th. The Champs Sports Bowl between West Virginia and NC State and the Insight Bowl featuring Missouri and Iowa. For me, the lure of Big 12/Big 10 action will be the highlight of the two games. The pretty passing of the Big 12 or the rough and tumble Big 10. West Va kicks off at 6:30. The Mountaineers bring a solid defense to face off with State who is putting up over 400ypg on offense.

3 more bowls on ESPN. The Miltary Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman goes at noon between Maryland and East Carolina. Does a 6-6 team from C-USA even deserve to be here? At 6pm Baylor and Illinois face off in the Texas Bowl which will be sure to feature some offense. Closing things out at 9:15 is the Alamo Bowl between Oklahoma State and Arizona. Cowboys lost the OC. Will it affect them? Can a soft? Arizona team out of the Pac-10 play with the big bad Big 12?

4 more bowl going Thursday starting at noon on ESPN with the Armed Forces bowl between Army and SMU. Kansas State and Syracuse kickoff at 3:30 in the first ever Pinstripe Bowl at the New Yankee Stadium. The Music City Bowl has North Carolina facing the Vols of Tennessee at 6:30. At 10pm in the Holiday Bowl, its a rematch between Washington and Nebraska. One of the more lopsided spreads at Nebraska -14. Washington just 6-6 on the year facing a 10-3 beast from the Big 12.

New Year’s Eve. Finally you can get off of ESPN as a bowl game makes an appearence on CBS. First at noon on ESPN, we have the Meinke Car Care Bowl with South Florida and Clemson. Later at 2pm, over on CBS, the Sun Bowl kicks off between Notre Dame and Miami. Now if this was 1987, this would be one for the ages. But for now, its just a couple of 7-5 teams playing for pride. At 3:30 it is the Liberty Bowl between Georgia and Central Florida. Bulldogs were just 6-6 while UCF raced to a 10-3 record. The line is Georgia -7. Before watching the ball drop, take in the Chik-Fil-A Bowl between a couple of good teams. South Carolina and Florida State. A pair of 9-4 teams looking to build off a bowl win for next year.

All is quiet on New Year’s Day. Hell no. It’s a 6 pack of Bowl Action $ At high-noon, Ticket City Bowl between Texas Tech -9.5 over Northwestern on ESPNU. Then at 1pm on ABC you have the Outback Bowl. Throw some leftovers on the barbie and watch Florida and Penn State go at it. At 1:00 on ESPN, the Capital One Bowl kicks off with Alabama -11 over Michigan State. Sparty feels they are being snubbed. Well, nothing like facing the defending champs to state your case. Will there be a new viking-inspired Capital One commercial? At 1:30 the Gator Bowl will be getting underway between Mississippi State and Michigan. Can Rich Rod salvage his career with a bowl win? At 5pm, it’s the Grandaddy of them All.. The Rose Bowl.. Finally, a non-BSC school gets to test the waters. TCU faces a Wisconsin juggernaut that put up 70 3 times and twice in the last 3 weeks which included an 83 spot! The line opened at TCU -2.5 To close out your hangover day, the Fiesta Bowl goes at 8:30pm. The Big 12 Champs Okalahoma Sooners draw the Big East Champions University of Connecticut. The line is 17 with a total of 55.

Your stand alone bowl on January 3 is the Orange between Stanford and Va Tech. This to me is going to one of the better bowls of the year. Tune in for a great matchup!

Tuesday the 4th we get the Sugar Bowl going between Ohio State adn Arkansas. Another Big 10/SEC showdown. What conference is left with the bragging rights?

The GoDaddy.com Bowl between Miami Ohio and Mid Tenn State. Really. Why here? Are there that many degenerates?

Back to some decent teams playing. The Cotton Bowl has LSU facing Texas Tech. Another game that I have some particular interest in. Should be a good one. If you are staying in Friday night, this is a fun time.

The BBVA Compass Bowl between Pittsburgh and Kentucky being played in Alabama. It goes Saturday at high noon.

Can we stop with the fluff already!! The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl between Boston College and Nevada. This is what Nevada gets? 12-1 and you are playing the day before the BCS Championship vs an ACC team that won 7 games. Terrible

Finally.. Oregon v Auburn. What is there to say? Enjoy
