As the horse racing world slowly heads to the Triple Crown Races, there are a number of major stakes races on Saturday, February 12th. Gulfstream Park is the site of the $150,000 Grade II Sprint Championship. Soaring Empire, ridden by Jose Lezcano, leads a field of 8 to the gate as the 8/5 favorite.

Santa Anita Park will host two Grade II races. The $250,000 Robert B. Lewis for 3 year olds. This 1 1/8 mile race has a number of horses looking to use this race as a springboard to the Kentucky Derby. Race favorite Tapizar, with Garret Gomez aboard, leads the list of 8 starters as the 4/5 chalk.

The $150,000 Santa Maria Stakes is the second Grade II race on the card. Trainer Mike Mitchell sends out 8/5 favorite St. Trinians with jockey Jeo Talamo aboard. Mitchell has been in the money in 13 of his 24 starts in 2011.
