Fantasy NBA now real for bettors at Cantor Sports Books by Mark Mayer of The Gaming Today

Cantor 5 sounds like a show on the Sci-Fi channel, but the “fantasy” also became reality Monday at the M, Tropicana, Cosmopolitan, Venetian, Palazzo and Palms sports books.

“It’s fantasy basketball,” said Mike Colbert, director of sports operations at M Resort – the hub of Cantor Gaming’s growing empire. We choose a Cantor team daily, the individual chooses one as well.”

The timing is interesting, square in the middle of college basketball’s March Madness but on a day when the NCAA tourney was idle and NBA had free reign on board odds.

“NBA betting is way up at our properties,” Colbert said. “To be honest, I’m not quite sure why. I don’t think it was because of the strike. We just seem to have a pro NBA crowd.”

And, this pro NBA crowd now has a new toy to play with – betting their fantasy team daily against the house. More proof that fantasy sports is a good marriage for the books and vice versa.

“Customers can put together as many teams as they like,” Colbert said. “You can play for free or bet daily. The minimum bet is $5 and you can wager on either your team or the house’s, which I feel lends credibility to Cantor 5 and its rating system.”

That rating system will change daily. Right now Miami’s LeBron James is the highest ranked player. The team you can put together is comprised of two guards, two forwards and a center. No defense, but rebounding, assists, steals, etc., are part of the scoring system.

“The computer will make lines on an individual’s team against the house and you can bet either side daily,” Colbert said. “Players can put their team or teams together from home or at any of the Cantor books. You just need to have a Cantor sports account.”

But the best news is that Cantor Gaming is now accepting most major debit and credit cards to open and fund sports accounts. Thus sports bettors with an account are now offered a fast, convenient way to place wagers. It’s the first-ever use of credit cards as a method of payment.

“We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the enjoyment of our Cantor race and sports books for sports wagering fans,” Colbert said. “Making the method of payment more convenient marked a logical next step for our race and sports books.”

Cantor Gaming’s Android-compatible mobile sports wagering application enables gaming fans to place wagers on all Android devices, including cell phones and tablets.

“Gaming Control gave us approval to run the game a few days ago,” Colbert said. “It was a group effort to develop Cantor 5 and we plan to operate a similar fantasy game for the NFL this season. There are no plans for baseball at this time, but it may be addressed later.”
