Bulls win 14th straight at home, edge Grizzlies

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – Derrick Rose scored 24 points and recorded a key three-point play with 10.8 seconds remaining, as the Chicago Bulls won their 14th straight game at home with a 99-96 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies at United Center.

Rose also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out seven assists for the Bulls, who hold a two-game lead over the Celtics for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Luol Deng added 23 points and six boards for Chicago, which has won three in a row and 11 of 12 overall. Carlos Boozer donated 12 points and nine rebounds.

“We did a good job of winning the game at the end,” Boozer said. “We wanted it more.”

Zach Randolph finished with 16 points for the Grizzlies, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Marc Gasol chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Tony Allen and Mike Conley added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Memphis, which holds the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

“It was a back-and-forth game,” Conley said. “We left everything we had out there.”

Gasol made two free throws with 2:28 to play to make it a 93-93 game. Rose responded with two shots of his own from the foul line at the other end to make it 95-93.

Memphis had multiple chances to tie the game or go in front, and O.J. Mayo missed a three-pointer with 30.9 seconds to go.

Rose drove to the hoop and was fouled by Gasol while making a layup. Rose made his free throw to make it a 98-93 game with 10.8 ticks remaining.

Mayo made a three-pointer at the opposite end to keep things interesting. Rose then went 1-of-2 from the line to give Chicago a 99-96 edge with 3.6 seconds left.

Conley’s shot from the top of the arc was off the mark as time expired.

Memphis held a 20-11 lead late in the first quarter, but the Bulls ended the frame on a 10-2 run to cut the gap to 22-21.

The Bulls also used a surge at the end of the second stanza. Chicago’s 12-1 flurry this time to grab a 49-46 lead at the half.

A tight third quarter resulted in the Bulls taking a 74-73 margin into the fourth.

Game Notes

The Bulls took both games from the Grizzlies this season…Chicago hasn’t tasted defeat at home since January 18 versus Charlotte. They are 32-4 as the host this season…Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay underwent season-ending shoulder surgery on Friday…The Bulls outrebounded Memphis by a 45-32 margin.
