Final Score: Seattle 2, LA Angels of Anaheim 1

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) – Torii Hunter’s misplay of a fly ball from Carlos Peguero in the ninth inning gave the Seattle Mariners a 2-1 win and a sweep of a two-game series against the LA Angels of Anaheim. In the ninth with Scott Downs (1-1) on the mound, Jack Cust lined a hard single to third to lead off the inning. A sacrifice bunt from Adam Kennedy and a groundout from Luis Rodriguez put Cust on third base. Peguero then lofted a fly ball to center that Hunter appeared to have a bead on, but he fell to the ground in front of the ball as he lost it in the sun and Cust scored for the win. The play made a winner of David Pauley (2-0), who threw a scoreless ninth inning for the Mariners, who have won three of four. Chris Gimenez drove in the other run while Doug Fister gave up a run on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts over eight innings.

The Yankees pounded out 14 hits, eight of which went for extra bases, including RBI triples by Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner. It was more than enough support for Sabathia (4-3), who limited Baltimore to seven hits and struck out nine. The Yankees chased Orioles starter Brad Bergesen (1-5) after just 3 1/3 innings, getting to him for eight runs on just five hits and three walks. Bergesen started in place of Jeremy Guthrie, who was used in relief during Wednesday’s 15-inning marathon.

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – J.P. Arencibia hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning, powering the Toronto Blue Jays over the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-2, at Rogers Centre. With the bases loaded and one out, Crawford took an Al Alburquerque (0-1) offering over center fielder Austin Jackson’s head, allowing pinch-runner Darnell McDonald to easily touch home for the win. Crawford finished with two hits while David Ortiz went 3-for-4 with a home run for Boston, which has won a season-high six straight games. Boston starter Josh Beckett had another impressive outing, allowing five hits and one run with three strikeouts and two walks.
