Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) – Michael Brantley drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the winning run in the ninth inning, as the Cleveland Indians topped the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-4, to open a three-game series. Brantley also had a solo home run while Grady Sizemore belted solo shot for the Indians, who have won 14 straight at home. Chris Perez (2-1) got the win with a shutout ninth inning. Matt Joyce had a solo homer and drove in two runs for the Rays, who had a four-game winning streak snapped. Evan Longoria also had solo home run in the loss. Joel Peralta (1-2) suffered the loss in 1 2/3 innings of relief, leaving the bases loaded in the ninth before Kyle Farnsworth walked in the winning run.

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – Matt Wieters’ RBI single in the 13th inning lifted the Orioles over the Mariners, 7-6, in the opener of a three-game series. Felix Pie, who entered the game in the eighth as a pinch-runner, also added an RBI single in the 13th for Baltimore. Jeremy Accardo (2-0) was given the win despite allowing the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th for the Orioles, who ended a four-game slide. Brandon League (0-2) took the loss and the blown save for the Mariners, who have lost three in a row.

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) – Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run single in the fifth inning for the go-ahead runs and the New York Yankees held on to beat Kansas City, 3-1, in the opener of a three-game series. Freddy Garcia (2-2) pitched into the seventh inning for the win and the Yankees bullpen took care of the rest, with Mariano Rivera working around a single in the ninth for his league- leading 13th save. Derek Jeter had two hits and knocked in the other run for New York, which has won three of its last four. Former Yankee Melky Cabrera belted a solo homer for the Royals, who have lost seven straight on the road.

Final Score: Toronto 7, Boston 6 (10 innings)

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – David Cooper’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th brought in Rajai Davis with the winning run, as Toronto slipped by Boston, 7-6, in the opener of a two-game set from Rogers Centre. Facing Matt Albers (0-1), Davis singled with one out, stole second and third, then came home easily on Cooper’s deep fly to center. It made a winner of Carlos Villanueva (1-0), who pitched a scoreless top of the 10th. Cooper also homered, as did Jose Bautista and J.P. Arencibia for the Blue Jays, who halted a three-game losing skid. Adrian Gonzalez homered twice and drove in three for the Red Sox, whose three- game win streak came to an end. David Ortiz also homered among his three hits and scored twice in defeat.

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) – Michael Young had a two-run triple and fell a homer short of the cycle to lead Texas over Oakland, 7-2, in the second portion of a three-game series. Adrian Beltre and Mike Napoli also drove in two runs for the Rangers. Colby Lewis (3-4) pitched 7 1/3 rain-interrupted innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk to give Texas its third win in its last seven games. Brett Anderson (2-3) took the loss in 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five to end Oakland’s two game win streak.

Final Score: Detroit 10, Minnesota 2

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) – Victor Martinez continued his hitting tear, going 3-for-4 and knocking in four runs, as the Detroit Tigers dominated the Minnesota Twins, 10-2, to start a two-game series. Jhonny Peralta and Brennan Boesch both drove in a pair of runs for Detroit, which has won seven of its last eight games. Rick Porcello (3-2) was solid for the Tigers, allowing just one run on three hits in five innings. Twins starter Francisco Liriano (2-5) looked to follow up his no-hitter against the White Sox with another good start, but it was cut short due to illness. He left after the third inning but not before giving up four runs on three hits. Rene Tosoni hit his first career home run for the Twins, who have dropped four in a row. During the fourth inning, storms brought golf-ball size hailstones that littered the field. Ground crews worked feverishly to clear the outfield, using snow blowers and rakes to make it 64-minute delay.

Final Score: LA Angels of Anaheim 6, Chicago 2

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) – Alberto Callaspo drove in three runs and Maicer Izturis had a solo home run in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s 6-2 win over the Chicago White Sox that evened up a three-game series Howard Kendrick had a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Angels, who have won five of their last seven contests. Joel Pineiro (2-0) got the win in 7 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs on eight hits. He also struck out five batters. Paul Konerko had a solo shot for the White Sox, who had a three-game win streak snapped. Chicago starter John Danks (0-6) is still in search for his first win of the season after getting roughed up for 10 hits and six runs in five innings.
