Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – The Philadelphia Phillies placed right- hander Joe Blanton on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a medial impingement in his right elbow.
The move is retroactive to April 24.
Blanton is 0-1 with a 5.92 earned run average in four starts this season.
The Phillies are expected to recall pitcher Vance Worley from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start Friday’s game against the New York Mets. The right-hander has gone 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA with the IronPigs.
Worley went 1-1 with a 1.38 ERA in five games (two starts) with the Phillies last season.
