Three from Kentucky declare for NBA Draft by The Sports Network
Lexington, KY (Sports Network) – Kentucky’s Brandon Knight, Terrence Jones and DeAndre Liggins have declared for the NBA Draft, but none have announced plans to sign with an agent.
The school released the news Wednesday, a day after freshman Doron Lamb announced he will not declare for the draft and instead return to the Wildcats.
However, fellow freshmen Knight and Jones, along with the junior Liggins, have opted to submit their names.
Because they have not signed with an agent, they could still return to Kentucky if they withdraw from the draft by the May 8 deadline.
“This will be a great chance for me to measure my skills against some of the best in the country and receive additional information on where I fit into this year’s draft,” said Jones, who was named the SEC’s freshman of the year.
Knight and Jones were the Wildcats’ top two scorers this past season, helping Kentucky reach the Final Four in the NCAA tourney.
Knight averaged 17.3 points with a team-best 4.2 assists per game while serving as the team’s point guard. He set Kentucky freshman records with 657 points and 87 three-pointers.
Jones, a forward, posted 15.7 points and led Kentucky with an average of 8.8 rebounds.
Liggins recorded 8.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while frequently being assigned to defend the opposition’s best offensive player. The guard also led the Wildcats with 46 steals.
“Growing up in a tough environment in Chicago, it’s a pleasure to have an opportunity to do something special,” Liggins said. “This is another challenge I’m looking forward to, to have my game evaluated by pro scouts and see how I rank against some of the top players in the world.”
Underclassmen have until April 24 to declare for the draft, which will take place June 23.
