Matt Wieters added an RBI single in the rally and the Orioles improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1997. Jake Arrieta (1-0) earned the victory, giving up one run on six hits and two walks in six strong innings. Tigers starter Rick Porcello (0-1) took the loss, giving up all five runs on nine hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out four, but his wild pitch in the bottom of the second scored the other Baltimore run.

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) – Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada belted two-run homers in the first two innings, leading the New York Yankees to a 4-3 win over Minnesota in the opener of a four-game series. Ivan Nova (1-0) pitched six innings for the win, and New York’s vaunted bullpen closed out the team’s third victory in four games this season, with Mariano Rivera collecting his third save. Rodriguez and Posada homered off Twins starter Scott Baker (0-1), giving the Yankees 11 round-trippers already this season. Baker yielded five hits and four walks while striking out two in six innings. Justin Morneau and Tsuyoshi Nishioka had two hits apiece for Minnesota and Jim Thome hit a two- run double.

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) – Nelson Cruz belted his fourth homer of the season and the Texas Rangers remained undefeated with a 6-4 victory over Seattle in the opener of a three-game series. Cruz and Elvis Andrus hit solo homers, giving the high-powered Rangers offense 13 round-trippers already this season, improving to 4-0 for the first time since opening 1996 with seven consecutive wins. Derek Holland (1-0) worked six innings for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five. Texas scored five of its runs — three earned — against Seattle starter Erik Bedard (0-1), who pitched for the first time in almost two years and took the loss in five innings.
