Update NFL Power Rankings

Posted November 13, 2010 by Tony Karpinski
1-Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) Played smart against the Bengals, Mendenhall ran for 99 yards on the ground, Making all the right plays on 3rd down, making the most of their opportunities. Ben again showing he is the leader of this team.

2-Baltimore Ravens (6-2) Ray Rice was unstoppable against the road tough Miami Dolphins. Rushing for 83 and also 97 yards receiving out of the backfield, an absolute double threat on offense.

3- New York Jets (6-2) Mark Sanchez took the J-E-T-S on his back and led them to a 23-20 win over the up and coming Detroit Lions, throwing for 336 yards, a career high.

4- New England Patriots (6-2) Patriots get smoked by the Browns? Who seriously saw this coming? The Pats D was struggling all season long, Peyton Hillis came to town and rumbled for 189 yards and 2 TD. Pats better fix this problem fast.

5- New York Giants (6-2) The Giants have outscored their last 5 opponents, by the average score of 32-15, and rushing the ball for 174/gm in those games. Hitting their stride behind an imposing defense and great ball control.

6-Indianapolis Colts (5-3) Colts road struggles continue as Michael Vick ran for 74 yards against the inadequate rushing defense of the Colts. Vick, who is playing his best ball of his career, did what he wanted vs Manning’s Colts.

7- Atlanta Falcons (6-2)Defending home turf against the scrappy Bucs, withstanding a strong run by the Bucs, and holding on to win, showing a lot of heart, again this week.

8- New Orleans Saints (6-3) The Saints demolished a horrific Carolina team, doing what they should do, out gaining the Panthers 408-195 in total yards.

9- Green Bay Packers (6-3) Back in the saddle after demolishing the Dallas Cowboys. The offense is clicking, scoring 27 over the last 3 games, and with the league best LB, Clay Matthews who is devastating QBs this season, with 10.5 sacks.

10- Tennessee Titans (5-3) Able to rest after their bye week, gives them some time to reset, with new WR Randy Moss, next week, playing the teetering Miami Dolphins, a test for the CBs of Dolphins.

NFL POW (PLAYER OF THE WEEK)

Peyton Hillis (RB, Cleveland Browns) 3 year veteran, rushes for 184 yards and 2 TDs against the New England Patriots, in the battle for bragging rights between Bill Belichek’s Pats and Eric Mangini’s Browns. Great win for Cleveland. Quietly has 7 TDs in the season, ranking 3rd in the NFL.

Hard-hitting matchups this week to watch for; Baltimore at Atlanta (The Ravens have won 5 of their last 6 games, only losing in overtime to the New England Patriots. The Ravens are playing outstanding football, matching up in Atlanta, where the Falcons ranked 6th versus the run.), Kansas City at Denver (Chiefs look to bounce back after losing to the Oakland Raiders. Play another division rival, the Broncos, in a legendary matchup in the AFC West, can the Chiefs bounce back or will Kyle Orton tear apart the 21st ranked pass defense of the Chiefs.) St. Louis at San Francisco (Young Sam Bradford leading his 1st place team into Candlestick Park, Bradford playing superb, especially over the last 3 games, 5 TDs and 0 picks. The Niners desperately need this win, if they have any chance of competing in this feeble division, at 2-6, still only 2 games out.) New England at Pittsburgh (Can the Pats bounce back after a humiliating loss to the 3-5 Cleveland Browns? I am sure Belichek will have them pumped and ready to play, even though giving up 118 rushing yards/gm.

Although the Steelers haven’t been running the ball as much with Ben back, after the Browns debacle, I am sure Mendenhall will get the rock 20+ times in this game. This may be a long day for Pats fans.) Philadelphia at Washington (We all know this is McNabb vs the Eagles part II. The Eagles lost the first meeting, and McNabb played disappointingly, throwing for only 125 yards. And now with the drama in Washington, will McNabb be the man to lead them, or would Shanahan pull McNabb against the Eagles for Grossman at some point in the game? Can you imagine what that would be like?)
