San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) – Rajon Rondo finished with 22 points and 14 assists as the Boston Celtics used a strong second half to top the San Antonio Spurs, 107-97, at AT&T Center. Paul Pierce posted 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists while Kevin Garnett scored 20 with nine boards in the victory, which put the Celtics at 2-1 on a four-game road trip. With the win the Celtics now hold a half game lead over the idle Miami Heat for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and are two games behind the idle Chicago Bulls for the top seed. Tim Duncan, who returned from a four-game absence due to a sprained left ankle, paced the Spurs with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Tony Parker added 23 points with eight assists but it wasn’t enough to halt a five-game slide. The Spurs still hold the best record in the NBA, but are now just 2 1/2 games ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Bynum ended with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Odom had 16 and 11 and sparked the Lakers early in the fourth quarter, helping the club win its eighth straight contest to pull within 2 1/2 games of the Western Conference-leading San Antonio Spurs. Dirk Nowitzki netted 27 points for the Mavericks, who had a five-game winning streak snapped to fall 1 1/2 games behind LA for the No. 2 seed in the conference standings.
