Peoria, AZ (Sports Network) – The San Diego Padres picked up infielder Alberto Gonzalez from Washington on Monday.
In exchange for Gonzalez, the Nationals will receive minor-league pitcher Erik Davis and cash considerations.
The 27-year-old Gonzalez hit .247 with 19 runs scored and five runs batted in over 114 games last season.
Over parts of four big league seasons, spanning 276 games, he is a career .253 hitter with two homers, 49 RBI and 66 runs scored with the New York Yankees and Nationals.
Davis, 24, appeared in 27 combined games with Single-A Lake Elsinore, Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Portland last year and went 14-3 with a 3.52 ERA.
The Padres also announced on Monday that outfielder Mike Baxter was placed on the 60-day disabled list after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb on Tuesday.
