NFL News; Bears Terminate Contracts of DT Harris, Two Others by The Sports Network

 

Lake Forest, IL (Sports Network) – The Chicago Bears terminated the contracts of defensive tackle Tommie Harris, linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer and offensive lineman Kevin Shaffer on Monday.

Harris, the 27-year-old three-time Pro Bowl selection started six of 15 games in 2010 and registered 1 1/2 sacks and 13 total tackles.

In 104 career games — 90 starts — the seven-year veteran has compiled 28 1/2 sacks, six forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, one interception and 286 tackles with the Bears.

Hillenmeyer, 30, suffered a concussion in a preseason contest a year ago, played in Week 1 against Detroit, but never saw the field the rest of the season after experiencing concussion-like symptoms.

Over eight seasons with Chicago, spanning 101 games (69 starts), Hillenmeyer had seven sacks, a pair of interceptions and 458 tackles.

Shaffer, a nine-year NFL vet, started seven of 32 games at the right tackle position over the last two years with the Bears.
