It’s not that wins at home or losses on the road necessarily produce money for us at the betting window, but it helps.
The home court advantage is huge for the elite teams who often have visitors beaten just by showing up for the game.
The world champion LA Lakers did not make our Dirty Dozen list for top six home courts or bottom six away from home because they have been hard to predict in both cases.
Oklahoma City and Portland have tremendous home crowds and New York has Madison Square Garden alive for the first time in well over a decade.
Yet, they didn’t make the list. I do think OKC will crack this list soon with Durant and Westbrook as good a young duo as we’ve seen.
This week’s Dirty Dozen goes six and six in home/road success. We list the extremes, since mediocrity doesn’t help us very much.
6. PHILADELPHIA (10-20 on the road): Sixers a great cover team, but should be doing better. Look for some better results in second half.
5. NEW JERSEY (4-25): Who knows what can happen with Nets if they can finally acquire Carmelo Anthony from Denver.
4. MINNESOTA (4-24): Look for a much better second half showing away from home if Kevin Love can manage to stay healthy.
3. TORONTO (5-23): The Raptors looked to be a team that’s given up prior to All Star break.
2. CLEVELAND (3-27): No LeBron, not much chance of victory especially on the road.
1. WASHINGTON (1-25): Just ended 25-game road losing streak. Can only get better, right?
6. NEW ORLEANS (20-8 at home): Nips Dallas because Hornets much worse on road and they have Chris Paul.
5. ORLANDO (21-8): Magic can really shoot the 3’s in their building and Howard can be a beast.
4. BOSTON (25-5): Strong first half, but Celtics may give regulars more of rest to gear for playoffs.
3. MIAMI (20-5): Despite all the “heat” Miami is still pretty darn good at home. Look for a stronger second half.
2. CHICAGO (25-4): The Bulls have really ignited the United Center again behind Rose and Noah.
1. SAN ANTONIO (25-2): The Spurs have been the NBA’s best because they protect home court. As stated, the Lakers are just 19-8.
