Even though Kansas City rose up to take the AFC West title last year, it’s still San Diego that’s considered the team to beat.
The MO for the Chargers in recent years has been a slow start, great second half and a playoff exit. While less than the Super Bowl is considered a losing season these days in San Diego, just making the playoffs would suit the other division teams this season.
Nobody really knows how good the Chiefs are because they were awful during preseason. The Raiders are still hoping Jason Campbell is the right QB to put their chips behind. The Broncos are torn as to whether Tim Tebow is the savior or third string.
DENVER (4-12 SU, 5-10-1 ATS): Preseason began with rumors of dealing starting QB Kyle Orton with fans pleading for Tebow. Then Tebow fell all the way to third string. If the Broncos can ever decide who gives them the best chance to win, they may just do that.
Bettors: OVER was 11-5 last year. Denver opens with Oakland and Cincinnati at home. You can’t ask for more.
KANSAS CITY (10-6 SU, 9-7 ATS): Those of you in fantasy drafts may want to consider Tyler Palco, who may start in this week’s opener for injured QB Matt Cassel. Expectations are high in KC, but it’s been a long time since we’ve seen the Chiefs play well.
Bettors: The UNDER was 9-7 in 2010. Opener with Buffalo huge with trips to Detroit and San Diego next.
OAKLAND (8-8 SU, 9-7 ATS): The Raiders have excellent team speed, youth and a nice front seven on defense. Now they need to stay healthy, rely on the best kicking game in the NFL and hope Raider Nation doesn’t all wind up in jail. Anything from 4 to 10 wins is possible.
Bettors: OVER was 10-6 a year ago. First year coach Hue Jackson looked to be a good hire during preseason.
SAN DIEGO (9-7 SU, 8-7-1 ATS): There hasn’t been as much public chatter about San Diego this year because you can only get burned so many times. Philip Rivers is the face of a franchise that is rumored to be headed to Los Angeles if a new stadium is built.
Bettors: OVER was 8-7-1 a year ago. Re-signing Vincent Jackson was a must. Still a dangerous team.
