10 Most Anticipated Games of the 2011 College Football Season By Rob Vinciletti

In an early season game we have Florida St. From the ACC taking on the Big 12 Oklahoma Sooners On September 17th. These two prolific teams met last year in Oklahoma and the result was a humiliating one for the Seminoles. They were pasted pretty good by the Sooners 47-17. The Seminoles get Oklahoma at home for the first time in a series where they have lost 5 of 6 all time. The Seminoles have 16 starters back from a 10-4 team and also return 50 lettermen. The Sooners are once again the favorites in the Big 12. This will be an excellent early season test for them. Moving along we have perhaps one of the best days in the season on October 8th which features two key games. The first one is a huge game between Oklahoma and Texas. The Red River game. Last year Oklahoma held off a furious rally from Texas winning the game 28-20. Oklahoma went on to a solid 12-2 season with a blowout bowl win over U. Conn to close out their season. They are loaded once again with 16 returning starters and 54 lettermen. Texas is coming off their worst season in recent times finishing up at 5-7 on the Year.Things should get back to normal for Texas and this should once again be one of the biggest games of the season. Also on October 8th is a solid game between Ohio. St and Nebraska, which is in their first season in Big 10 Play. The Buckeyes are a team in turmoil losing their Coach and Qb. However they are coming off a solid 12-1 season and still have one of the better defenses in the nation. Nebraska was 10-4 last season and returns 12 starters and 53 lettermen. They ended their season poorly with a bowl loss to the Washington Huskies in a game where they were a double digit favorite. This game should be an excellent game to watch as both teams will be tough to score on. As we go down the list the next big time game appears on October 22nd in a game that pits Notre Dame and USC. Two more high potent programs. The Irish should continue to move forward in Brian Kelley second season at the helm. Last year they pulled the upset over USC. They managed to hold off the Trojans and escape with a hard fought 20-16 win which ended their 8 game losing streak in the series. Notre Dame capped their season off with a nice bowl win over Miami and have 17 starters back with 50 lettermen from an 8-5 team. USC returns 13 starters and 39 lettermen, also from an 8-5 team that won a bowl game. Stay Tuned as this one looks like another game that may go down to the wire. Back to the SEC where we have maybe the best game of the season on November 5th between Alabama and LSU. Last year LSU won 24-21 at home, avenging a road loss to Alabama the year before. They have won 8 of the last 11 in the series and capped their season off with a solid bowl win over a loaded Texas A&M team. This year both of these schools are evenly matched and either could get to the SEC championship game. This years game will have the winner in terrific shape. When you have 2 teams with that can both scored and defend you have the Makings of an instant classic. This game is a must see once again this year. Our Travels take us to another Big Saturday on November 12th. There are two Big time games taking place. The first one is Boise St taking on TCU. Both teams ended their seasons with big Bowl wins. TCU taking out a solid Big 10 team in Wisconsin and Boise St coasting to a 26-3 win over Utah. Boise is loaded again this season as they return 14 starters and an incredible 58 lettermen from a 12-1 team. TCU finished at 13-0 and has just 8 starters back but does return 45 lettermen. These two split a pair of bowl games in 2008 and 2009 with both games getting decided by 6 or less points. More of the same here this season as these two hook up in the regular season. Our second colossal game of the day takes us to the PAC 10 where we have 2010 top two teams going head to head in the Oregon Ducks and the Stanford Cardinal. Both teams finished 12-1 last season with Oregon suffering a 22-19 loss in the Championship game, and Stanford with star Qb A. Luck dismantling Virginia Tech. Last year Oregon stormed back from 14 down to bury Stanford 52-31. This year Stanford will seek revenge at home. In the series Oregon has won 8 of the last nine. Look for another High scoring, entertaining game between two of the best out West. November 24th is our next stop. A Thursday game between two rivals. A Texas two step is in the making as we have Texas and Texas A@M here tonight. This game will be a hot contested game between two Big 12 teams. Last year the Aggies went into Texas and defeated the Longhorns 21-17. Texas will look to avenge that loss in which they hurt themselves with costly turnovers allowing the Aggies to score 17 points. While the Aggies appear to have more talent and the home field advantage. This is a series between two teams that will leave it all out there on the field. Exactly the type of game one wants to see. Speaking of leaving it all out on the field brings us to another huge battle just a day later on Friday November 25th. The Pittsburgh Panthers and the West Virginia Mountaineers hook up in the “Back yard Brawl” Talk about two teams that have bad blood. This game looks to be the premier game in the Big East as we project forward to two of the more talented teams in the East. The Panthers lost last years game by the blowout score of 35-10. In this years 104th version they will travel to West Virginia to take on a Mounty squad that ended their year with a bad loss to NC. State. Get ready for some hard hits and big plays as these two duke it out in Big East Play. Finally this brings us to our tenth and final preview of this report. On Saturday November 26th we save the best for last with another Huge rivalry game. Back to the SEC for Alabama and Auburn. Last years game between these two may be hard to duplicate. Auburn was nearly run from the building falling behind 24-0 nothing and were lucky Alabama didn’t capitalize late and increase that lead. The Tigers showed the poise of a champion battling back to win 28-27 while holding Alabama to 58 yards in the second half and taking advantage of the injury to the Crimson starting Qb as they sealed the deal. In that game it was the first time in 16 years both teams were ranked in the top 10. Alabama rebounded in their blowout bowl win over Michigan St and returns 17 starters and 53 lettermen from last years team. We all know what Auburn was able to achieve as the knocked off Oregon and became National Champions. Now they face the tough task of replacing their star Qb and return just 6 starters and 38 lettermen. They will have home advantage in this one. This game should be another dandy. In Closing, there will be many more entertaining and substantial, high powered games as the season unfolds. I hope you enjoyed the preview of the ones listed above.
