NCAA Football: Wisconsin transfer impacts Big Ten odds

NC State’s loss is Wisconsin’s gain and Las Vegas books took this transfer seriously.

Russell Wilson, arguably the top quarterback in the Atlantic Coast Conference, left Raleigh last week for Madison and the University of Wisconsin. Now players transferring schools is common, but affecting Vegas odds isn’t.

The Las Vegas Hilton cut Wisconsin’s odds to win the BCS title in half, from +3,000 (30-1) to +1,500 (15-1).

“Guys out here are high on (Wisconsin), thinking the quarterback was the only position lacking,” Hilton sports book manager Jeff Sherman told Covers.com.

Also impacted was the Oct. 1 matchup in Madison between the Badgers and new Big Ten member Nebraska. The game now has Wisconsin a 2½ point favorite.

Ironically, Wilson isn’t even guaranteed to start the season at QB for the Badgers. Also, Wisconsin climbed ahead of Penn State into the No. 2 spot in the preseason Big Ten rankings just behind Nebraska.

Without Ohio State in the mix, the Big Ten lacks a legitimate national title contender, which leaves a balanced conference of debatable strength.
