Joe Mauer is slated to be behind the plate for the first time since April 12 when the Twins host San Diego, as he will be activated off the 60-day disabled list prior to the contest. The 2009 AL MVP batted just .235 in his first nine games before hitting the DL with bilateral leg weakness.
The injury is one of the many reasons the Twins sit in the basement of the AL Central, another reason being the ineffectiveness of 2006 AL MVP Justin Morneau, who was placed on the DL Tuesday with a strained left wrist.
The Twins will make several other moves. To make room for Mauer on both the 25-man and 40-man roster, they will send outright outfielder Brian Dinkelman to Triple-A Rochester.
The Twins will also activate left-handed pitcher Glen Perkins from the 15-day disabled list. Perkins, who has been on the DL since May 22 with a strained right oblique, is 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 22 appearances this year.
To make room for Perkins on the 25-man roster, the Twins will option pitcher Chuck James to Rochester.
