Garcia had also missed the first day of spring practice while serving a suspension back on March 15. He, along with sophomore redshirt quarterback Andrew Clifford, were both penalized for violating team rules.
“Stephen is returning to the team on a probationary basis and still has to do some things here for the next two or three months to prove himself worthy of being a student-athlete at South Carolina,” said South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier. “We will give him another chance and hopefully he can do the right things and represent the University in a first-class manner.”
The 23-year-old Florida native finished the 2010 campaign with 3,059 passing yards and 20 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. The Gamecocks went 9-5 and claimed the SEC East title, but lost to Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Garcia has started 28 straight games for South Carolina and ranks third all- time in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and attempts for the Gamecocks.
