NFL Lockout by the Gaming Todays Jimmy Vaccaro

In a few days we will usher in a new decade. There were lots of changes good and bad in the past 10 years, but we will keep to the sports side. The rest of the equation includes reality shows, political pundits and large entities with clout always laying -7 when the rational side is no more than -3.

We deal with final results as opposed to hyperbole and politically correct statements. In our world, if you bet the Broncos last Sunday, you got paid and if you had the Texans you lost. Put up a game, take bets and adjust. No filibusters needed.

The NFL and its players union will be a point of contention for the upcoming months. Do not be surprised if both sides screw this up. Plenty of posturing, but no results. It surely would have a heavy effect for our industry and Nevada if they hit a stalemate.

Would college football move some games to Sunday? I suppose so but the effect would be small in the big picture. There would be no spike in basketball betting as already the season and interest wanes, picking up slightly for the NBA playoffs.

College basketball has already started, pushing to opening the season much too early, and will lay there until March.

So sit, talk and everyone agree for an 18-game NFL season. Only let’s have only eight games a week with alternating byes and have two seasons. After eight weeks, have some goals to reach the playoffs and a second chance as we do with some contests depending how you do the second half.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Lions in the playoffs as opposed to possibly the Seahawks. We wouldn’t have to go through this stuff about what teams need to do to make it in. Get the deal done, keep it simple and preserve a great game.

Oh yeah, I still have it -160 no games first week of the new season. Take care, Jimmy V.
