The Cleveland Indians placed designated hitter Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained right oblique.
The move is retroactive to May 18.
Hafner is batting .345 with five home runs and 22 RBI in 32 games this season.
The Indians also optioned infielder Luis Valbuena to Triple-A Columbus, while recalling outfielder Ezequiel Carrera and pitcher Frank Herrmann from the Clippers.
Carrera, who has yet to appear in a game at the major league level, hit .317 in 37 games for Columbus this year. Herrmann has made four relief appearances with the Indians in 2011.
