MLB Updated Odds to Win the World Series as of 5/18/11 by Joe D’Amico
As we pass about one quarter of the regular season in baseball, we have seen some surprises. As of print on 5/18/11, here is a run down of what’s what in the MLB. The AL East is bunched up as 2 ½ games separate Tampa Bay, New York, Boston, and Toronto. The AL Central has the Indian’s starting to run away with the division at 26-13, 5 games ahead of the 2nd place Tiger’s. Pre-season favorite, Minnesota is dead last, 13 ½ games back. The AL West is truly the “Wild West” with just a ½ a game separating Oakland, Texas, and Los Angeles. The NL East has Philly, Florida, and Atlanta battling it out for the top spot. As of print, the Phillie’s are in 1st place by a ½ game but have dropped 4 straight. The NL Central is still the weakest division in the major’s. Four teams sport losing records while The Red’s and Card’s are truly the cream of the crop there. The NL West has last years “Cinderella” team, San Diego dwelling in the cellar at 18-24 while Colorado leads San Fransisco by a ½ game at 22-18.

The biggest declines in the odds were Minnesota going from 18/1 to 75/1, San Diego dropping from 40/1 to 100/1 and the New York Mets falling from 50/1 to 100/1. The biggest inclines were Florida going from 35/1 to 18/1, Oakland changing from 40/1 to 25/1, Milwaukee jumping from 75/1 to 22/1 and the biggest of all, Cleveland going from 150/1 all the way to 8/1.
