St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) – Alex Rodriguez belted two solo homers and the New York Yankees snapped their six-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over Tampa Bay in the finale of a two-game series. Brett Gardner had three hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the Yankees, who banged out 12 hits to end their season-long skid. Ivan Nova (4-3) picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four in 5 1/3 innings. He was pulled after loading the bases in the sixth and four New York relievers closed the game out. Tampa starter James Shields (4-2) had his four-decision winning streak halted after giving up four runs — three earned — in seven innings. He allowed eight hits and a walk, but struck out nine.

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – A wild pitch scored Gordon Beckham in the eighth inning to help the Chicago White Sox take a 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers in the finale of a two-game set. Brent Morel hit a three-run home run while Jesse Crain (1-1) got the win for throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the White Sox, who have won four of six. John Danks went 6 1/3 innings in the start and gave up three runs — two earned — on four hits with six walks and two strikeouts. Endy Chavez went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Yorvit Torrealba drove in a run for the Rangers, who had won four of five coming into the game. Matt Harrison went seven innings and gave up three runs on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) – Travis Hafner hit a three-run double to lead Cleveland past Kansas City, 7-3, for a two-game sweep. Carlos Carrasco (2-2) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. He also struck out five in 5 1/3 innings as the Indians won their third straight. Sean O’Sullivan (2-3) went five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two in the Royals’ fourth consecutive loss.

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) – Backed by a potent offense, Gio Gonzalez twirled seven sparkling innings and the Athletics routed the Angels, 14-0, to sweep a two-game series. Gonzalez (5-2) allowed just one hit and one walk, throwing 62 of his 93 pitches for strikes and fanning seven in Oakland’s third win in four games. The A’s didn’t need anything else from him. They banged out 15 hits in the game and scored six of their runs in the sixth inning. Amazingly, their season-high 14 runs came without a homer. The Angels, who have lost three straight and five of their last six, sent the minimum to the plate in seven innings and had only two hits in the game, getting the second one in the ninth.

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) – Michael Cuddyer hit a two-run single in the first inning and that was all the run support Francisco Liriano would need as Minnesota defeated Seattle, 2-1, to split a brief two-game set. Liriano (3-5) threw seven strong innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while fanning nine as the Twins snapped a nine-game losing streak. Felix Hernandez (4-4) went eight innings and allowed two runs on three hits and three walks. He also struck out nine in the Mariners’ seventh loss in their last eight games. Ichiro Suzuki knocked in the lone run for Seattle.
Baltimore at Boston, postponed
Boston, MA (Sports Network) – Tuesday’s series finale between the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park has been postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been announced.
Toronto at Detroit, postponed
Detroit, MI (Sports Network) – Tuesday’s series finale between the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park has been postponed due to rain. The game has been rescheduled for June 27 at 7:05 (et). Toronto starts a five- game homestand against Tampa Bay and Detroit heads to Boston to begin a five- game road trip on Wednesday.
