Denver, CO (Sports Network) – The New York Mets placed first baseman Ike Davis on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a left ankle sprain and a bone bruise.
Davis suffered the injury in a collision with third baseman David Wright on a pop up in the fourth inning of the Mets’ 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday. While the rest of his teammates remained in Denver, the 24-year-old returned to New York for tests.
In 36 games this season, Davis is batting .302 with team-highs in home runs (7) and RBI (25).
The Mets recalled outfielder Fernando Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo to fill Davis’ roster spot. Martinez was hitting .292 with three homers and seven RBI in 19 games for Buffalo.
